Demosthenis Michael, a Cypriot graphic designer the last few years, has been working in the fashion industry and specifically in Headpiece Accessory design! I know him for years, I had the honor to work with him for his first show with his first collection but since then he has done a lot more and is getting better and better on every collection.
Demosthenis is one of the most creative people I know, apart from the madness of an artist and the energy that he emanates, he always deals with something new and runs to catch up on collaborations and projects!
-Hello Dimosthenis, thank you for your time. So, tell us a little bit about what you do?
– I’m a Headpiece Designer and Conceptual Graphic Designer. That means, as a Headpiece Designer – I create several pieces limited edition, above all, for the head, especially designs from various hard industrial materials. Lately, I have begun creating eclectic and elegant pieces for brides who want to stand out on the most important day of their lives, and a more complete collection on this premise will slowly appear.
Conceptual Graphic Design – is a pretty big part of my professional life. In procedural terms, in order to create something graphic, I have to study the client, his questions and what he does, so that I can also understand what I have to do and plan. So the most important part of this aspect is the communication and the proper management of each client. I create the corporate identity of each professional by designing the logo and from there on creating all other customer’s requests, from business cards, to labels, websites, the pen that staff will hold, airplanes, cars, buses, billboards, invitations, shopping bags, labels for fashion designers and clothes hangers, everything else. However it all depends on the design of a logo!
-Let’s concentrate on the Headpiece Designer part of your work, how and when did you start your own creations?
-My headpieces started in August 2012, while looking at all these materials that have always attracted my interest. Afterwards, I began to experiment and in the end I created my first Metalization collection, followed by many collaborations with various designers, photographers and models in Cyprus and abroad.
-I think every time I see your new collection is better than the previous one, but I will always have a weakness in Alien! How much does a new collection come from? Where do you get your inspiration?
-I’m trying to make a conceptual collection every year and I’m in the process to be able to get more. Inspiration I get from everywhere, from what I see, smell, taste and feel.
-Tell us about your collaborations.
-I have worked with Sandy Antoniou, CHRIS K – Christina Konstantinou, Polina Argyrou and the minister of fashion designers of Cyprus Pantelis Pantelis. I have made great collaborations with Cypriot photographers such as Stavros C Photography – Stavros Christodoulou, Clique Photography – Stavros Christodoulou, Konstantia Katsari, Dimitris Katsaris, Louis Loizides Mitsu for editorial and conceptual photography, most of which have been published in foreign magazines such as Dark Beauty Magazine, KALTBLUT Stores, ICON International Magazine, Cool Korean Magazine.
-You have worked with many, you know even more, could you tell us which Cypriot creatives stand out on your opinion?
-We have very talented people in our country, I distinguish too many people as creators! I like to study everybody’s work, I like to see the detail on a design and creation, and it goes beyond that and I will, in my opinion, understand in which area I will integrate it. I like to see experimentation, study, a proper process with traditional stimuli or even unreal stimuli. I just love the elegance and you know very well how addicted I am to design!
– Now, tell me who would you like to work with, worldwide?
– My dream is one of my designs to be worn by Daphne Guinness; to create a collection for various fashion houses abroad, Dior, Iris Van Herpen, Gareth Pugh, Alexander Mc Queen, Jean Paul Gaultier, with Greek designers Celia Kritharioti, Stelio Koudounari, Miro, Orsalia Parthenis, Ioanna Kourbella,
-What you love:
– My calmness in the studio.
